Laundry Tips for Site Workers — Washing PPE & Workwear

Wash hi-vis correctly

Hi-vis fabric loses reflectivity with each wash. Cold water (≤40°C), gentle detergent, no fabric softener (it coats the reflective tape), inside-out. Air-dry rather than tumble where possible.

Most partner properties have a washer and many have a dryer. Some have a dedicated 'utility' setup for site kit — check property listings for the 'workwear-friendly' tag.

The 3-set rotation

For a 6-week stint, three full sets of workwear is the sweet spot. One on, one in the wash, one drying. Sunday evening wash, Monday morning fresh start — falls into a rhythm fast.

Boots take longer than you think

Wet leather boots take 24-48 hours to fully dry. Always pack a spare pair if your work is outdoor. Newspaper stuffed inside speeds drying — it pulls moisture out faster than air alone.
