Don't book back-to-back
If you can, leave at least a Saturday between contracts. Driving home Friday evening then leaving Sunday morning for the next job is the fastest route to burnout. A genuine weekend back home is the recovery you need.
Reconnect deliberately
Family and partners get used to your absence in ways that surprise everyone. The first weekend back can feel slightly off — that's normal. Plan something simple together (a walk, a meal, a film) rather than trying to 'catch up' on everything you missed.
Process the work week before you walk in the door
A 20-minute decompression drive, podcast on, no work calls. By the time you're home, you're home — not still mentally on site. Sounds soft; protects relationships.
